Your entire worldview will be altered when you see a Russian bi-plane the size of a greyhound bus rumbling down a grass airstrip with what looks to be a trolling motor on its nose.

200+ planes, all shapes, all sizes, all taking off, all landing. Without so much as a hiccup. The scene mirrored an ant hill after accidentally (not really) stepping on it. Chaotic, nonsensical, wonderful, amazing.

After a weekend that quickly took a dark and abrupt turn, it is good to know that there are a few constants in this world:

1. My understanding of the way this life works is minimal at best, and I like it that way.

2. People will never stop amazing me with their ridiculousness, and I like it that way.

Mel Tillis

Born August 8, 1932. Is an American country music singer. Although he recorded songs since the late 1950s, his biggest success occurred in the '70s, with a long list of Top 10 hits.

Tillis' biggest hits include, "I Ain't Never," "Good Woman Blues," and "Coca-Cola Cowboy." He also has won the CMA Awards' most coveted award, Entertainer of the Year. He is also known for his speech impediment, which does not affect his singing voice. His daughter is country music singer Pam Tillis.

Neil Jeffrey

Jeffrey was a quarterback for the Baylor Bears during the 70s and is most famous for "The Miracle on the Brazos" in which the Baylor Bears upset the Texas Longhorns.

The trippy thing about Jeffrey was that he had a terrible, terrible stuttering problem. When Jeffrey stepped to the line to hike the ball, he had to sing "Blue 42, Hut, Hut, Hut."

That's right he sang to hike the ball.

Jeffrey led the Baylor Bears to their first SouthWest Conference championship in 50 years.

1. Impossible as it may sound there are still Beatles songs unreleased - the most notable ones being Carnival of Light (an experimental piece recorded on 5 January 1967 for The Million Volt Light and Sound Rave) and a 27-minute jam of Helter Skelter. A John Lennon composition the three surviving Beatles worked on in the early '90s prior to the Anthology release called Grow Old with Me also remains unreleased.

2. The Beatles (or at least half of it) sang for the Rolling Stones: Lennon and Paul McCartney provided backing vocals to the 1967 single We Love You.

3. Besides writing hundreds of songs for the Beatles, Lennon and McCartney also wrote dozens of songs for other artists such as From A Window (Billy J. Kramer with The Dakotas), One and One Is Two (The Strangers with Mike Shannon), Step Inside Love and It's For You (Cilla Black), Come and Get It (Badfinger) and Woman (Peter and Gordon).

4. The Beatles’ third studio album A Hard Day’s Night is the only one to exclusively contain Lennon-McCartney compositions.

5. Paul is not McCartney's first name, James is. Lennon changed his middle name from Winston to Ono after marrying Yoko Ono in 1969.

6. At the end of Strawberry Fields Forever, Lennon is heard mumbling what sounds like "I buried Paul", which helped fuel the 'Paul is Dead' rumors. He's actually saying "cranberry sauce".

7. The only Beatles single to ever feature another musician on the credit is Get Back/Don't Let Me Down (credited to The Beatles with Billy Preston). Preston, recruited by George Harrison to ease the growing tensions in the band, played the Hammond organ on both songs.

8. Two days after Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band released, Jimi Hendrix opened his set at London's Saville Theatre with the title track, something McCartney considers his "single biggest tribute".

9. The final version of Strawberry Fields Forever was created combining two takes of the song in two different keys and speeds - a remarkable achievement considering the equipment and technology of the time - but still failed to fully satisfy Lennon.

10. The only Beatles track to be credited to Lennon and Harrison is an early instrumental called Cry for a Shadow recorded in 1961 when the band was backing Tony Sheridan. Flying and Dig It are the only two tracks to be credited to all four Beatles.

11. The BBC banned several Beatles songs - I Am the Walrus (for the use of the word 'knickers') and Fixing a Hole, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and A Day in the Life (all for alleged drug reference).

12. The working title for the film Help! was Eight Arms to Hold You.

13. For the Sgt Pepper album cover, cutouts of Adolf Hitler, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jesus Christ were requested by Lennon, but ultimately they were left out, though a cutout of Hitler was made for use.

14. Ringo Starr was the first to actually leave the group, walking out in 1968 during the acrimonious White Album sessions. As a result, the remaining Beatles all took turns on the drums for some of the tracks. When Starr finally returned he found his drum kit covered in flowers.

15. The closest the Beatles came to reuniting was at Eric Clapton's wedding to Patti Boyd in 1979, where McCartney, Harrison and Starr played. Lennon did not attend.

16. The last time Lennon and McCartney played together was at the Los Angeles Hit Factory studio in 1974. The abysmal (and possibly drug-fueled) session, which also featured Stevie Wonder and Harry Nilsson, was of such bad quality that the bootleg recording was released as A Toot And A Snore In 74.

17. Lennon and McCartney each recorded demos called India which remain unreleased. Each of them also recorded a version of Fats Domino's Ain't That a Shame for their rock and roll albums (called Rock 'n' Roll and Снова в СССР respectively).

18. The first song ever written by Lennon was called Hello Little Girl. McCartney's first was I Lost My Little Girl.

19. Lennon was charged with plagiarism by Chuck Berry's publisher over Come Together which resembled Berry's 1956 song You Can't Catch Me. The case was settled out of court. George Harrison faced and lost a similar lawsuit over his solo hit My Sweet Lord which resembled the Chiffons' He's So Fine.

20. Lennon's number 9 connection: Lennon was born on 9 October 1940, his son Sean was also born 9 October, 1975. He wrote the songs #9 Dream (part of Lennon's ninth solo album Walls and Bridges which was released in the ninth month of 1974 and peaked at number 9 in the US charts) and with the Beatles - One After 909 and Revolution 9. He lived in apartment number 72 on 72nd Street in New York and was killed in the evening of December 8 when it was already early morning of December 9 in his birthplace of Liverpool.

Truth is Subjectivity

Saw this, read it, thought it was interesting (via Truth is a Snare)

I have had people get very confused listening to me discuss – with ardent passion – the absolute nature of reason, and then lapse quietly into existential pathos about the subjectivity of meaning.

And rightly so.

Epistemology is something that has a special meaning for me, as the problem of knowledge is precisely the thing that got me interested in philosophy in the first place. Like most children, “why?” was often the first word to leave my lips, but as I grew older it deepened into the far more problematic, “How do I know?” And so I turned to the great thinkers of the past to quell my questions. Philosophy has never been something casual for me, has never been a hobby; it has always been a deep necessity. And so I covered all of the great epistemological debates with wild vigor, passing through the rigors of Descartes, diving into Hume, considering Kant, and finally ascending into Kierkegaard.

Kierkegaard says that “Truth is subjectivity”; but what of this apparent contradiction? After giving the matter much consideration, I feel that the answer goes something like this…

Take God, for instance. Take the logos, or any sort of divine metaphysical, a priori thing. Consider that it has an absolute nature. Well and good. But now ask a human being to conceive of this, or to come to grips with such a thing. The problem becomes obvious: how can a finite consciousness, with extremely limited perceptive capabilities, come to grips with an Absolute? How can he, with his imperfect mind, understand that which is perfect? He cannot. The knowledge itself is too much for him to take in; or, to put it another way, he does not possess the the capacity to comprehend it as it is. Thus, man’s relationship to any sort of absolute thing must be in an entirely subjective way, through mediums that are relative to that individual.

This takes the standard relativist attack on absolutism and turns it on its head: of course the absolute is indefinable; you are a finite being!

This is why evangelizing is almost a completely worthless enterprise. I say almost completely worthless because I imagine some good has come of it at some point in some remote or small way, but such an instance would be an infinitesimal exception. If, given as we have shown, the nature of the human consciousness does not allow for an objective understanding of things that are, by their natures, infinite, then evangelizing, or attempting to bring people who are almost certainly not receptive to some kind of objective knowledge about these things is ridiculous.

Truth is subjectivity. Again, this does not mean that truth is, absurdly, “what you make it”; this does not mean that I can change the very nature of things in some sort of god-like way. “Truth is absolute” and “Truth is subjectivity” should, in this way, prove to be no contradiction. OBJECTIVELY, Truth is Truth, with a capital T and all the transcendence associated with a priori things. The problem is simply that man, given his extremely limited nature, has no ability to comprehend a thing as-it-is. He relies instead on subjective interpretations.

Red-Letter Christians believe that Evangelicalism has been exploited by both right-wing and left-wing political movements, and they endeavor to create an Evangelical movement that focuses on the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly in regard to social issues. "Red-Letter" refers to New Testament verses printed in red letters to emphasize the actual words that Jesus spoke without the use of quotations (see Red letter edition). While many Christians have defined themselves as such over the years, a mass-market movement was initiated by authors Tony Campolo and Jim Wallis who felt the religious right spend too much time on two issues: abortion and homosexuality. They believe Christians should be promoting biblical values such as peace, building strong families, the elimination of poverty, and other important social justice issues.[1]

The social issues valued by Red-Letter Christians include taking care of the poor, spreading the Gospel (see also the Great Commission), and loving one's enemies. They believe that these are the issues that Jesus spoke of directly, and therefore these issues should be political priorities. Other issues such as homosexual rights, abortion, and war are viewed as important but over-emphasized by both liberals and conservatives.

On the reason for creating Red-Letter Christians, Tony Campolo said, "The purpose of this gathering was not to create a religious left movement to challenge the religious right, but to jump-start a religious movement that will transcend partisan politics."[2]. Campolo has released a book to help explain this, called Red Letter Christians, A Citizen's Guide to Faith and Politics

Tony Campolo is abrasive, but I think this view of Christianity sums up the way I think.

I don't want to be too political, but this needs to be brought up. The idea of Christian Reconstructionism/Dominionism - the tendency among some conservative politically-active Christians, especially in the United States of America, to seek influence or control over secular civil government through political action, aiming either at a nation governed by Christians, or a nation governed by a conservative Christian understanding of biblical law.

Think Theocracy. Dangerous, radical, ultra-conservative Theocracy.

All we have to do is look at one example from this past presidential election, Mike Huckabee. Dominionists would like to replace our current constitution with God's Word. Which in most cases (practically all) would be unconstitutional, unless, you have an eye to amend the constitution. Which is what Mike Huckabee proposed to do. (By the way, he won 9 states in the Republican primary.)

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

Whatever your religious affiliations might be, even as a Christian, this country is made up of millions of diverse opinions on the way to live. To change a constitution to fit with one religion's way of life would be the single most detrimental thing to our country to date.

This will borrow heavily from Roger Ebert's article on Bill O'Reilly.

I won't go into the politics of O'Reilly, since everyone has their own opinion on the role of government in our lives. This is more against the display of hatred that O'Reilly, and others like him, display on their TV programs. It's one of the most troubling things about the news today; there is no in between, middle of the road answer anymore. Even politcal affiliations are going by the wayside. In the land of the 24 hour news cycles, do you follow the teachings of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Keith Olbermann, Al Franken or Rush Limbaugh. The Ideals of each party has attached itself to these people. All of this would be fine if they did not speak hate, but they do, and it's not in a I disagree with your point-of-view way, it's a YOU ARE KILLING THIS COUNTRY AND SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT BACK AND SHOT way. I'll be picking on Bill O'Reilly for most of this.

This type of behavior on TV is representative of a troubling shift in the minds of most Americans. Eighth graders can't read newspapers, we want more entertainment, and we want entertainment in our "news". The more entertainment that we have the more kickass out network will be. We can attach ourselves to the ideals of the common person and that will drive our revenues through the roofs. Roger Ebert says it best: "News was a destination, not a generic commodity. Journalists, the good ones anyway, had ethical standards."

If you quoted the New York Times, that was an authority, now people quote tv personalities like O'Reilly and attempt to pass off his extremist positions as authority. If a wire service like the AP reported an event, it happened. Now the wire services are wasting their time chasing stories that involve Perez Hilton getting punched in the face by Will.i.am's manager, instead of using those resources to chase the events that are occurring in Iran.

For a little something extra...Raine Maida, the lead singer of OLP, released a solo album no too long ago. The album runs more along the lines of an beatnik poem open mic-nite style and Raine drops his very distinctive falsetto for the majority of the album. Here are few highlights:

The interesting thing about Raine's solo album is that it was done independently and sold exclusively online. Raine recorded, mixed, and produced the entire album in his home studio and the he worked with Nettwerk Music to distribute his music online...pretty awesome stuff
